Homosexuality has existed ever since the beginning of mankind. Homosexuality is sexual and romantic attraction towards the same sex, just like heterosexuality is sexual attraction towards the opposite sex7. Homosexuality is a massive topic of conversation in the 21st century, some people still argue that homosexuality is an unethical practice and that homosexuals (and lesbians) should just change their sexual orientation and become “straight”. In Australian society, approximately 77% of people believe that homosexuals and lesbians should have equal rights including the right to marriage1 .Homosexuals and lesbians are starting to rightfully gain equal rights around many countries in the world. In the olden times, the Catholic Church considered any homosexual behaviour objectively disordered and as a result it was never morally acceptable4. Though still on the opposite side of same sex marriage, the Catholic Church and its pope (Pope Francis) have been more accepting of homosexuals and their lifestyle. Pope Francis recently said, ‘if someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?’5. The Catholic Church also recently produced a report of the Vatican in which they explicitly wrote a paragraph on homosexuality. One of the lines wrote, "Men and women with homosexual tendencies must be welcomed with respect and delicacy"5. Despite these advances, the Catholic Church is still opposed to same sex marriages because they believe that marriage is a bond between a man and a woman6. At this point of time, it is unclear which side of the argument the Church supports.
