Paper is widely used all around the world and geting rid of them would certainly reduce number of trees cut down. Upstream Policy Institute (UPI), an organization dedicated in creating healthy society by addressing causes of environmental harm reports, every year, paper thrown in trash represent around 640 million trees. Also, sixty-five percent of paper thrown are recycled. (“Paper,” par. 1-3). WIth majority of papers recycled, less than half of trees cut down for paper as projected by UPI are cut. 1). Its logical to assume that spreading awareness on deforestation and its consequences would help control deforestation. But according to my survey, only forty percent of students who had taken an earth science class said that they are taking actions to control deforestation. We can pressurize government to do things but we cant make government do things. Its not sure whether government will do them or not. Also, it might take a while for government to do that. Its better if we decide to take actions on our own by making environment friendly choices. Our government or anyone else cant force us to eat packaged foods that has high palm oil content contributing in deforestation or to eat beef all the time which has played a part in decline of number of trees. By making smart choices we can disassociate ourselves from this sin threatening human
