There would be fewer mass shootings. If guns were a lot harder to get, then there would be fewer guns lying around for people to get therefore fewer shootings. Teens, children, and people that have mental issues would no longer be able to access their friends and parent’s guns if guns were made difficult or near impossible to purchase by the public.
Gun control has proven to be effective in other countries. Other countries with tighter gun laws don’t have nearly the amount of gun-related deaths. People tend to focus on the crimes when it comes to guns. However, most gun deaths occur from suicides, and accidents, not criminals. Fewer guns equal fewer deaths. We don’t have to abolish guns in order to have gun control. Most Americans are in favor of some gun control laws. More gun control would reduce the suicide rate. Most of the suicides that occur in the US are done with a gun. All of these guns are legally bought and owned. If there was a much longer waiting period for purchasing weapons and a more thorough background check, then many of these suicides might be avoided. There are hundreds of thousand assaults that occur each year, however, out of all these cases less than one percent of people used a gun to defend themselves. Often times legally purchased guns are stolen and used in crimes. The key to protecting our democracy is not by having armed citizens, but by having informed citizens.
