Imagine going to Grand Central Station in New York City, seeing passengers walking from one side of the station to another. On one of those walls, there is a bulletin board, notecards, and pens with a sign that reads, “Write whatever you want and post it here”. The passengers begin to write and post their thoughts and feeling for everyone in Grand Central Station to read. Some of these posts are nice while some are vicious but the common ground of these post is that they are public for everyone to read. Replace Grand Central Station with the Internet, now you have multiple boards and posts for everyone in the world to see. That is what the Internet is, a social pace for everyone around the world to post whatever they want. Reddit is a website in which users share links for others to see. Reddit has a history of spreading hate speech, so much so that Reddit began to banned users who spread hate speech. In “Reddit troll ban helped cut hateful speech” by Rory Cellan-Jones, the Technology correspondent for The BBC, talked about how after banning users, the hate speech decreases. When showing the data of hate speech after the banning of hateful subreddits (or boards), Cellan-Jones explains, “On the two main banned subreddits, 41% and 33% of users respectively stopped posting or deleted their accounts”. (Cellan-Jones). Reddit is an anonymous site that requires each user to create a username, so even in the world of anonymity, the right to a banned user is there. Just because of there anonymous, doesn’t mean they have a clean slate when it comes to hate speech. The moderators are in charge of what content is on there website or boards. The discussion of whether or not to post a comment relies on the person behind the keyboard, the
