JD Baumann #2 People Should Play Baseball Have you ever wondered which sport to play? Even though there are many sports to choose from, I think people should play baseball. Baseball is a game that you play on a field called a diamond. You play offence and defence. When you are on offence, you hit the baseball that the pitcher throws to you.
While some believe that athletes should have their own choice at making a decision to go pro straight out of high school, they should not do so because they will not be able to manage their million dollar contracts respectively. Speaking of contracts, the NBA should eliminate guaranteed contracts for rookies drafted in the first round of the NBA draft. They should do this because a careless high school kid, could just go into the draft not knowing, or caring on how much they are going to make, with the lack of experience on handling millions of dollars. This is very unrepsonsibible for a teenager, and not only for the high school athlete, but also for the basketball association as well. This is because of there noncommitment to have these players
This notion is supported by Dr. Daniel Gould, who believes that “Children who participate in sports have increased educational aspirations, closer ties to school and increased occupational aspirations in youth” (1). People against the funding of high school sports think that parents and society are placing more emphasis than ever before and, “[P]ressures athletic personnel to deviate on winning from the athlete- centered educational and personal development mission” (Gould 1). However, athletes strive to do better in class. Michael Lorenc, a high school basketball coach believes that “those who seem to have an overwhelming schedule where they’re playing maybe multiple sports, and high academic schedules, they tend to do better than those who don’t do anything extracurricularly” (Gray). Balancing sports and school makes athletes put more effort into keeping up grades while playing the sport they love.
Lebrons James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett. Other than being all time greats these three players have one thing in common: they went straight from high school to the NBA. Over 40 players have skipped college and went straight to the NBA draft (Keusch). However, in 2005, then commissioner of the NBA, David Stern, passed a rule that required all athletes to be at least one year removed from High School before entering the NBA draft (Bonesteel). Forcing players to attend one year of college before getting their big pay day on draft night has been very controversial ever since the rule was passed.
There are few who do not enjoy the thrill of watching or playing sports. We enjoy aggressively engaging with others while playing a sport and watching those aggressively playing. While almost every college across America has a diverse group of sports teams, we cannot ignore that colleges and universities are in place with one major purpose: provide students with an educational degree that they can further their success and knowledge. Because college sports are so widely known, played and enjoyed, colleges should continue to support their sports teams, however, there need to be some stipulations on how far that support and encouragement goes. By making sure that coaches are not getting paid more than the professors, having requirements for students enrolled at the university who want to play sports, and by not losing the focus and the purpose of the university, sports should be supported by colleges.
It is a huge confidentiality that some people believe that girls shouldn't be allowed to play boys sports. The reason that this is, is because the girls will just get hurt because they are not strong enough. I believe that girls should be able to play boy sports because it gives them more opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities and be more active instead of staying on the couch. It also gives kids the ability to learn how to work as a team to achieve their goals.
“Stop wishing, start doing”. I attend University of Wisconsin Parkside as a student- athlete. I will be playing on the baseball team as a shortstop and a second baseman. There’s a problem.. I am a freshman and as one I know that we are usually not starters.
Are High School Sports Dying? It’s the Friday night lights, the thrill of running out of the tunnel, the loud warm up music, the crowd yelling to support you, that every high school athlete looks forward to. Winning the rival game, going head to head against friends from other schools, creating memories that will last a lifetime, those crazy bus rides and the long ones home after a tough lost. You play because you love the game but others play for the social aspect. Lately, it hasn't been about the players so much anymore it's been about your last name, who your parents are and how much money your parents are willing to donate to the program in order for you to get that starting position or more playing time.
Boom bang Girl power when it comes to sports doesn't matter if they are boys or girls if they can compete then they should be able to play together or against each other. Sports are typically sex-segregated, in childhood and adulthood for many years sports have been sex-segregated but recently more and more people have tried to make sports co-ed. Alongside the people who want co-ed sports, there are also the people who like the tradition of sex-separated sports. Co-ed sports could innovate sports as a whole.
Have you ever wanted to live an active and healthy life, as well as an improvement in grades? I believe youth sports will help all of those problems and many more. Most sports are team sports that also teach your child teamwork. Playing youth sports is a terrific experience for you or your child. There are many reasons why I feel that children should play youth sports.
Children have strived for years to make their parents, teachers and coaches proud of them. Kids have come to practice Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday, and Friday to get better, while their academics are suffering. Students have pushed their bodies to the limits, causing extreme injury that will hold them back from sports in the future. Student athletes are not getting the opportunity to play multiple sports during the year, because they are expected to spelize in one sport and focus on it year round, leaving no opportunity to play other sports or do other activities. Youth sports are becoming too intense for young children to keep up with.
From the Friday night lights to the last second goal, school sports are a major part of the high school journey. In fact, according to "Are High School Sports Good For Kids?" by Daniel Gould, Ph.D., over five million students from the United States participate in a school sport. High school sports are a great way for student-athletes to stay healthy, make new friends, and be a part of a team atmosphere. In addition, school sports keep kids off of the streets and lower the athlete's chance of committing a crime. School sports are a tremendous way for student-athletes to create new, meaningful relationships.
Should kids be sitting on the couch, watching movies, and eating chips all day? What kind of childhood experiences and learning opportunities for growth and development can be attained from being a couch potato? If you really think of it of course; your child is missing out on a lot of childhood experiences. Sitting on the couch, eating chips, is one of the factors to the fact that over one third of the world’s population is obese. Daniel Gould, Ph.D., director of the institute for the Youth Sports at Michigan State University, says, “A solution to obesity is competitive sport.
In this day and age with professional athletes being at the top of the social spectrum, youth sports have gotten very popular. “More than 26 million children ages 6 to 17 played team sports in 2014(Rosenwald).” Youth sports are very popular because it brings the great feeling of being on a team. When you are on a team you feel like you can do anything together, and nothing is stopping you. There are also many flaws in youth sports.
Do you ever think about the benefits that you get when playing competitive sports? Well there's more than just fun to it. In this essay I will be talking about Why playing competitive sports benefits you. Some people say that competitive sports are not good because of cost, attitude and injury, Others say it prevents obesity, heart diseases, makes you healthier and happier. So is it good or bad.
