Persuasive Essay On Legalizing Abortion

A controversial debate over a women’s right to terminate a fetus. Abortion, a hot topic for those who are pro-choice and pro-life. Pro-choice debate that abortions should be legal, and believing it’s a choice for a woman to make, not the government. On the other hand, pro-life defends that the fetus is living, and termination means murder. In January of 1973, the Supreme Court took on Roe v. Wade, which established a women’s right to have an abortion with state regulation. In most recent news, Roe v. Wade was overturned on June 24, 2022. Thus causing abortions to be illegal with exceptions in certain states for incest and rape. This most recent overturn has caused major pro-choice groups to roar in protest, which caught my eye. America is culturally diverse and allows practice of all religions. Although built on Christian values, why should we continue to abide by those values when America has become so diverse? Many still firmly believe that this country is a Christian Nation as mentioned by Tyler and Hollman, “the perception that the court is pro-religion is that it feeds a common mouth that our country is, or should be, a “Christian Nation”. Tyler and Hollman discuss the upset of the overturn of Roe v. Wade, and how from the decision it allows many to assume our country is a “Christian Nation”. Also mentioned, “For people involved with Religious Right groups, the phony “Christian Nation” version of history fills a psychological need. It lets them know that they were right all along. It provides a comforting mouth of religious supremacism to combat the multi faith, multi philosophy America that so many of them find troubling.” (Boston). Boston’s statements were able to describe how many Americans feel about other cultures and beliefs coming into the country. They don’t want to acknowledge others and want to remain the same. Firmly believing that this country shouldn’t change. American officials and some Americans today are so oblivious to the fact that this country is as diverse as it is. America as a country already has gone through separation as Boston states, “Young people in public schools today may pray and read religious books in a non-disruptive way—but the choice is now theirs. No students can be compelled to take part in religious worship in a public school or singled out for refusing to do so.”. Why have already made such advances, but women still don’t have a right to an abortion? Forcing religious views onto people who may not believe in religion at all.
