The legalization of Marijuana has been a very increasingly topic in Texas for the past couple of years, but will it ever become a reality for our great state? Marijuana is legalized for recreational use in Colorado, Washington, Oregon, and the District of Columbia. Texas lawmakers have considered a broad range of marijuana policy reform bills. They even have brought forth bills that will allow people to only obtain a $250 fine for possession of up to an ounce of marijuana. This is huge, considering how strict laws once were on the drug.
This issue effects not only the federal government, but the state and local government as well. Considering the entire United States has had some sort of talk about legalizing the drug. Not everyone supports the legalization of the drug, but others believe it is the more proper thing to do, considering we use the drug to treat medical patients every day. Although Texas Governor, Greg Abbott, is very much against the recreational and medical use of cannabis, there are many other active politicians fighting for the legalization of the drug in not only our state, but country as well. This study was made on millions of people throughout the United States, so the majority of United States citizens want the drug to finally be legal everywhere. The study also showed that 30% of people always felt that it should be made legal while 21% of people say at first, they hated the idea of it becoming legal, but have changed their ways and now support its legalization. Only 7% of people say they went from supporting to opposing the drug, now you tell me which sounds more appealing, the 21% that changed and now support it or the 7% that supported but no longer
