Should we legalize marijuana or not? In most states in the United States, the use of marijuana is illegal, but some states have legalized the use of marijuana. However, I believe marijuana should not be legalized for several reasons: Marijuana is harmful to your body, marijuana could lead to more dangerous drugs, and many people might get killed over this drug. Marijuana is the most commonly used illegal drug in the world. A survey conducted in 2007 found that 14.4 million individuals in the US alone had smoked marijuana at least once. Many doctors have found marijuana to cure some diseases (drug abuse. Gov). Nevertheless, researchers have found that using too much marijuana could cause some serious illness. Several other studies have found that using marijuana in heavy doses can damage the brain. When marijuana is smoked, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) rapidly effects from the lungs to the bloodstream, which carries the blood to the brain and other organs in the human body.Some of the effects of marijuana are altered perceptions and mood, impaired coordination, difficulty with thinking and problem solving, and disrupted learning and memory.Memory impairment from marijuana use occurs because THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) alters how information is processed in hippocampus (drugabuse.gov). …show more content…
