Imagine the potential for lower taxes, lower crime rates, and better medical treatments. For instances thanks to Colorado we know that the legalization of marijuana has a chance to lower taxes due to how much it makes from income taxes. As well as the legalization of marijuana has lowered the illegal sale and distribution arrest by 10%. Finally it has improved medical treatments by allowing cancer patients to use it instead of doing chemo and can be just as helpful. The legalization of marijuana just might be that second step to building this government back to what the people want. Firstly when marijuana is legalized in a state the state loses a payment from the national government. So the state has to set a tax on marijuana to make up for the money the state loses for legalizing it. For example, Colorado legalized marijuana in November 2012. As a result from 2013-2014 Colorado made 44 million dollars from taxing, licensing, and other fees. From 2014-2015 Colorado made 61 million dollars, this year they are expecting 81 million. As a result the Colorado government might actually have to give a tax return to the adults of Colorado due to having to much money. These other crimes may not be directly related to the legalization, but happier people mean fewer crimes. However the downside to the legalization of marijuana is other drugs like meth and cocaine have increased in
