Medical Marijuana: The Cure That Could Cost You Jail Time The legalization of marijuana for medicinal purposes is controversial to many and miracle medicine for some. Marijuana is shown to help varieties of diseases and pain more effectively than prescription painkillers. Marijuana is legal for medicinal uses in some states and the others are fighting for the right to have it. With clinical testing and studies the benefits of marijuana as a medicine are boundless. Medical marijuana should be legal for a number of reasons, it is less addictive and more affordable than painkillers, it cuts ties with the cartel whilst bringing in tax money, and it can be used in various ways to treat and heal

However, the elderly generations are the most susceptible to addiction of opioids. These same groups of people are also faced with the problem of the price of their medicine. The solution to both of these problems could be medical marijuana. A University of Georgia study shows that the country could save $400 million if all 50 states approved the legalization of medical marijuana (Newkirk). If medical marijuana was available for everyone, the number of opioid addiction related deaths would decrease.
