Everyone in the United States wants to be rich and have a nice life of no struggles or anything like that, but no one truly understands what it takes to get rich. “The minimum wage is the salary floor, or the lowest possible rate that employers can pay employees”(Doyle). As of today the minimum wage in Texas is $7.25 an hour which to some people not a lot of money but to some people it is enough to get by.
Minimum wage is supposed to be low because it is a beginners’ job to start off in the workforce. With the minimum wage being low, it challenges people to work harder to either get a promotion or get a better job that pays more. The minimum wage being low teaches people the value of a penny because if you are making $7.25 an hour you will understand that you can not buy that new game you wanted because instead you will buy essentials; but if you started off making $20.00 an hour then you will not value your money as much as you should and you will end up living check by check instead of saving. Although if the minimum wage gets raised then teens would rather keep working and getting money and college will seem like a time waster because they are already making enough money to get by. That is why the minimum wage should be low because it is a beginners job for teens who are starting out in the job force. “ Better minimum wages for workers in this age range may prove a deterrent to getting a college education. When faced with the choice of earning an immediate income or the potential of a better income after four or more years of additional schooling, young people tend to lean towards the former, says corporate-law scholar Stephen Bainbridge”
