Lauryn Simms For those of you who don’t know The United States of America has been experiencing a healthcare crisis pretty much since The United States became a country. According to the PBS website the only differences are, in the past the crisis pertained to the uncontrollable outbreaks of untreatable diseases, and lag in healthcare development. Now, the crisis is related to the rising cost of healthcare, the system of insurance, and medicaid instability. The Affordable Care Act was set in place to hopefully put an end to the present crisis. The Morning Consult conducted a study involving 1,890 adults and asked them questions relating to the law, most of them did not know the answers. According to CNN Obamacare is currently still a law, but some of the insurance companies do not want to keep losing money and so they are trying to back out of Obamacare by 2018. So the question becomes, if everyone seems to be against Obamacare, why does it still exist? Brookings.edu suggest that the law is hard to repeal because it has been revived many times to reach common ground in Congress. Another thing is Congress is having trouble on deciding whether to repeal then replace or replace then repeal like President Trump wants, but that would leave 32 million people uncovered and Congress does not want to do that. So Congress has proposed a law to take Obamacare’s place, and under that law people would not be required to get healthcare, medicaid expansion will be gone, and people with pre-existing diseases and conditions will have to pay a higher insurance rate.
