September 11, 2001, was a day in which the United States of America would change forever, and our recovery from the attacks would determine our nation's future. After the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York on that cataclysmic day, the President of the United States quickly searched for an outlet to limit these particular issues.In return, the outlet that President Bush would later resort to, became known in American history as the Patriot Act. To inform readers, "The Patriot Act is a 10-letter acronym that stands for the Uniting and Strengthening of America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001" (Source 1). Any law enforcement officials can and will bypass a U.S. citizen's fourth amendment protections against unreasonable search and seizures. For example, the FBI or other federal agencies, are granted sweeping surveillance power, which means they have full acces to every indivual's phone. Anytime the constitution is being violated by the government, citizens are going to be questionable towards the act that has been put into place. Due to the unconstitutional circumstances of the Patriot Act, I strongly support against the Patriot Act of 2001. …show more content…

The government is invading our privacy for the reason of preventing terrorist attacks, yet studies have shown that not a single terrorist attack was prevented thorugh this Patriot Act. For instance, "There were 143,074 national security letters were issued and 0 of them were for terrorism" (Source 5). Clearly based on the evidence collected over a span of 2 years, there is no impact being made by the Patriot Act. This Patriot Act provides little to no evidence as to why it should still be in effect, so this act should be revoked
