In his essay “Gil’s Sportsplex”, Gil Fried states that Gil Giles is always obsessed with softball and thus, he tends to invest a sportsplex after he retired (1). Fried introduces Gil’s backgrounds that he is a former police officer without any experiences in running a sports facility (2). Elsewhere, Fried demonstrates various industry analyses about sportaplex, for example, the definition of sportsplex is a facility offering multiple indoor and outdoor sports (2), and the “Sportsplex Operators and Developers Association (SODA)” propose some guidelines for implementing a sportsplex, such as “developing a needs assessment, feasibility study and preliminary design”(2). In addition, Fried cites CT sportsplex information, which includes the location, population, the charging fees, sponsorship packages, and the competing component research, as a frame example for Gil’s sportsplex (3-4).
My first topic/ issue is with the NFL and their team owners; the basic idea of this issue is how the NFL swindles the state and the taxpayers to buy them new things while on the other side the tax payers get bent over. In this article from “the Atlantic” it says how the Seahawks built a new stadium and the cost 560 million, 390 million which was tax payers money. They only pay 1 million for rent while the rest is just a profit to the team and the owners, the tax payers are paying a lot of money to build a new stadium while a lot of it is just going back into a billionaires pocket (Paul Allen). I don 't like it, I think paying guys millions to play football and act like idiots most of the time is ridiculous. Most of these guys are very uneducated
To begin with, Salzberg makes a seemly unresearched claim, he claims that “Our universities are providing a free training ground for the super-wealthy owners of professional football teams, while getting little in return”(Salzberg 1). In this quote, he states that universities get little in return, but if one does a little research, the reader can see universities receive a great amount of benefits. For example, colleges can receive money from games in their stadiums whether they win or lose from tickets, concussions, players, and etc. The sports department is a big money makers in universities, not to mention colleges can also can gain publicity, if a player gets famous off the college’s team.
I feel there should have been more private investments, and that way, the city wouldn't be holding the debt of something that hasn't made good on the return. Proponents of public financing of stadium and arena construction often make the argument that the facilities will be literally “self-financing.” The way the facilities will become “self-financing” is by generating thousands of jobs, increasing tourism, and providing an even better experience for fans attending the games. If a city is interested in “re-developing” a certain area, stadiums and arenas are seen as a possible catalyst for the intended rejuvenation. Stadiums are massive projects that can transform the landscape of a city practically overnight and perhaps put the city on the map nationally.
Louis offers the opportunity to build a state-of-the-art stadium in place of the Edward Jones Dome, there is no reason why the Rams should be chosen as a team to move to Los Angeles. Stan Kroenke, sports mogul and current owner of the St. Louis Rams, has pitched a self-financed, two billion dollar stadium in Inglewood, CA to be the new site of a Los Angeles Rams franchise (Brandt, 2015). In contrast, Kroenke has made no such offer to the city of St. Louis. The Edward Jones Dome is known as one of the NFL’s worst facilities, despite the fact that it is only twenty years old. However, in contrast to San Diego and Oakland, the city of St. Louis has shown its strong desire and commitment to keep the franchise by pitching a one billion dollar stadium to keep ahold of the Rams.
I would lower ticket prices and have different promotions for the team throughout the football season. The second marketing theory is Maslow’s hierarchy. I feel it is the most important theory. It starts with the physiological needs. The stadium needs to have food all around the arena, clean bathrooms and drinkable water.
Lonnie, Thank you for your post! As you know I branched off of the Yankee’s in my post. I do agree that if sports teams like the Yankee’s want to build a new stadium there will be cost increases i.e. ticket sales, concessions and team jerseys.
The subsidy starts with the federal government, which allows state and local governments to issue tax-exempt bonds to help finance sports facilities. Tax exemption lowers interest on debt and so reduces the amount that cities and teams must pay for a stadium. If the city and NFL players came together Oakland could have a new stadium instead of
Pride in many ways drives a sports team 's revenue, because it speaks to the investment of fans in their hometeam. And having a place to gather, to eat good food and watch a team you love play, can directly contribute to a City 's pride in their team and furthermore, the money they are ready to spend on supporting that
These are just a few of the all time greats that played on Lambeau Field. Other than the team Hall of Fame, more than 12,000 seats were added to the top of the stadium as well as many new luxury suites. With all the extra seating and new accommodations, the Packers are projected to have an economic effect of $13.5 million a game(Walker)! This economic boost will benefit the team and the community as a whole. These renovations have caused a massive boost in revenue and continue to create new opportunities for fans and players.
American football is a highly profitable sporting spectacle whether its at the collegiate or professional level. I cannot disagree that football does not boost the American economy. I don’t agree that the players participating at their own risk for future benefit don’t get paid while playing such a dangerous sport. Another issue I have with organized football that almond touches on, is the mass wasting of resources in institutions around the country like the universities in the S.E.C. When looking at the massive increase in top football programs salaries around the nation one has to wonder why some of those money cant go to the players, or why it isn’t funneled into educational purposes for the universities? The top the programs alone increased
On October 20, 2015, Subway restaurants announced an antibiotic-free policy. The announcement earned great disapproval from the livestock industry. Ranchers in Kansas are upset with the company for changing to antibiotic-free meats. Rhonda Stithem, from that cattle ranch in Kansas, says they says they have lots of mouths to feed and they have safe food in places to do that. Sometimes they antibiotics if one cow falls ill.
Youth football is a sport that is played in various places, many people think that it is not dangerous and kids should be able to play, while others think that this sport is too dangerous and should not be played. Based off of all the evidence that I have found through research, it has let me to agreeing with the fact that youth football is too dangerous for young children to be playing. This sport has pros to it, some of which are very good, but the con side outways it with extraordinary pieces of evidence, these are the things showing that this sport is not to be played at this age and overall. There are a few pieces of evidence and facts that show proof of why it is dangerous and why this can’t be stopped. Some of the reasons are very serious, such as CTE which is a brain disease caused by rapid hits to the brain, this has lifetime affects and changes you in many ways, in worst cases this can even cause death.
In our generation , there is a debate on which sport is better , for example football or soccer? For many people, the two sports are their favorites, but there are groups of fans who believe that the other sport is just a joke. Supporters of the two sides can fight each other for many years and will not have a winner on what sport is better. However it can be prove that Football is the favorite sport in the United States , but soccer is the sport of the world.
Do you ever think about the benefits that you get when playing competitive sports? Well there's more than just fun to it. In this essay I will be talking about Why playing competitive sports benefits you. Some people say that competitive sports are not good because of cost, attitude and injury, Others say it prevents obesity, heart diseases, makes you healthier and happier. So is it good or bad.
