Saving Americans
Being in charge of the United States is filled with big decisions, especially for Franklin Roosevelt, and Harry Truman. On December 7, 1941 the United States was attacked by Japanese planes at Pearl Harbor. The bombing killed more than 2,300 Americans, and completely destroyed the American battleship U.S.S. President at the time Franklin Roosevelt called it “a date which will live in infamy.” This started the beginning of World War II for the U.S. Fast Forward to four long years later, the U.S. is involved in WWII, and current president Harry Truman, decides to drop the atomic bombs.There were many alternatives to dropping the bombs. Ultimately he went through with the plan making it one of the biggest days in history. There were many reasons as to why he decided to do it. Dropping the bombs on Japan was a great decision, as it saved many American casualties.

On August 6, 1945 a plane called Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb on the japanese city of Hiroshima. Instantly seventy thousand japanese citizens were vaporized. In years following there would be another one hundred thousand added to the list of casualties from burns and radiation sickness. Then two days later, the Soviet Union declared war on Japan. On August 9, a second and final bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan where another eighty thousand were dead. Five days later following the second bombing the Japanese finally decided to surrender. These events may have ended WWII, but have just started the Cold war, thus making it one of the biggest days in not only the United States history, but for other countries as
