Mass shootings in gun free zones like schools have Western lawmakers considering legislation that would eliminate these zones. Colorado, Wyoming and North Dakota are weighing proposals that would allow guns in schools, in the hope of avoiding future school shootings. The Second Amendment of the constitution is being cited by lawmakers who support the proposal. We should allow teachers to carry concealed weapons. The Second Amendment states “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Teachers should be allowed to carry weapons like handguns. The goal of new legislation that would allow this is to make schools safer. Jaggie from NPR says …show more content…
I don’t feel that it should be mandatory, but most certainly an option. Of course my biggest worry is if the teachers are capable of carrying a gun on their own, but Huffington Post informs us, “The only way to meet that force is to have legally armed, responsible citizen,” This hopefully is every teacher that is hired. However, some teachers may not want to because of how it will affect their teaching. Starting at a young age we learn that cops are the good guy, he always has a gun and handcuffs on his waistband. Kids should feel more safe when going to school and seeing that their teachers are also good guys that carry and can protect you. As stated, these people that can carry a weapon are “most trusted, background checked” people. Not everyone can carry a weapon. I think it would be an even better idea to teach children how to use guns and the point of them. We are America the second amendment lets us bare arms. When school shootings happen they last for about 5 minutes, in that time if the shooter is not killed, many children/teachers would be. If teachers carried they would be able to step up and protect us. From the source, “should kids be taught about guns in school” it says “Hell, lets do that in the schools. We have drivers training in the schools, lets have firearms familiarization in the public schools.” With the people who say its “too dangerous” its no different than letting your kid learn how to drive a car. I hear of more car accidents than gun
