I would start with an introduction presenting the topic with a supporting sentence. Here is where the controversy on the issue would be presented and state my position. The subject needs to be supported by logic and evidence.
Research shows that secondhand smoke leads to the same health problems as direct smoking, including lung cancer, cardiovascular disease and lung ailments such as emphysema, bronchitis and asthma. Why should people be forced to succumb to secondhand smoke? People are choosing to live a healthy smoke free life and should be able to do so without it being violated. I personally don’t care what you to do your body and do care that the behavior of others affects others.
I would need to make clear if I am trying to get my audience to simply agree or take an action. In the case of smoking in public, I would aim for an action with persuasive facts on the harms of smoking.
