Beginning June 1, in San Francisco, anyone under the age of 21 is prohibited to buy cigarettes, vape pens, and other tobacco products. With this new law, San Francisco accompanies New York, Boston, and over 100 U.S. cities to boost the minimal age of purchasing different tobacco products such as cigarettes. This law will help young smokers who do not make fully mature decisions, to stay healthy. It will also provided a cleaner environment. With this intelligent law, San Francisco will have a decrease in tobacco addiction. In fact, according to tobaccofreekids.org, “220,300 or 10.5% of teens use tobacco products and 90% of smokers under the age of 21 turn into daily smokers.” Increasing the smoking age to 21 in San Francisco, will discourage children to buy tobacco products and not allow people under the age of 21 to bring cigarettes to school or anywhere near younger kids. Most 18 year olds are seniors in high school who often have friends that are the same age or younger than them. If they smoke, the younger teens have easier access to the tobacco products. Because of this, there will be a lower death rate and a lower chance younger students will inhale the smoke. Second hand smoking can do the same amount of damage, or more than smoking a cigarette. People under the age of 21 will stop littering their cigarette butts, creating a city that will be so much cleaner from the litter and fumes and will be more appropriate and safe for everyone especially kids. The law will also make San Francisco have a safer environment, it will be more secure from the early smokers for the people with asthma and the air unclear of smoke.This will help San Francisco build a bigger popularity because there will be less people suffering from this
