Semis have been around since the 20th century. The 18 wheelers carry 70 percent of goods and products in the United States (“The History of Semi Trailer Trucks”). Semis are responsible for carrying anything from animals to construction materials (“The History of Semi Trailer Trucks”). Some may even say they’re the kings of the roads, which can be intimidating (Paulden).They are the biggest trucks on the roads, and some people fear them. Also, semi drivers are on nearly every road and tend to not care about smaller cars. Because of the fear and size difference, semis should have safer ways around. Semi-trucks should have different roads than other cars. Cost can be an issue in building separate roads for semi-trucks (Forkenbrock, March). Even though cost can be an issue, other issues can be solved. Having a safer environment for the trucks and cars can decrease the amount of casualties and accidents. But the roads can help prevent congestion. When less congestion is happening, truck drivers are able to drive their route faster. Faster routes can bring trucking companies more money. Which will Make customers and drivers happy because of shipments being on time and the bigger pay for drivers. Having a faster route in the trucking business can give the driver more rest time and more time to spend out of the truck (Paulden). When a trip is done faster than expected, bonuses and bigger pay can be given to a trucker (Paulden). Trucking firms can benefit highly from these separate roads.
