Stem cell research continues to be a controversial topic, even though many new advances in medical technology have been found. Several groups of individuals have raised concerns over morality, cost, exploitation of females, and effectiveness of stem cell therapy. Yet, researchers believe that in as little as five years, they will finally master stem cell therapy. With the potential stem cell research holds for the people of the world, this technology is advantageous in many aspects. This breakthrough in manipulation of the stem cell has the potential to save lives, thus making research for stem cell therapy worth the time, effort, and money. Stem cell research is research to utilize stem cells, a cell which can become any type of cell in the body such as a blood cell or skin cell, for medical procedures. Stem cells can be used to regrow skin, appendages, and whole organs, helping to save lives of many individuals with what once was an incurable …show more content…
As explained in The Naked Skeptic by Peter Bowditch, “…40% have felt that the risk of this research is too great, or that even the risks of using the results of the research is too great.” Almost half of the population fears the risk of this research. However, this research has already been tested and has been proven to be effective. Scientists have created a human ear with stem cells in a lab, and organs have been made for lifesaving transplants. One case in April of 2013 consisted of a two year old girl named Hannah Warren. When Warren was born, she was missing her trachea, but doctors constructed a brand new trachea from plastic tubing and her own stem cells. Warren lived because of this transplant and within a month, the child began breathing on her own. Working kidneys created with stem cells have also been transplanted into patients just like Hannah Warren received her
