Barack Obamas presidential campaign was notorious for using web 2.0 platforms such as Reddit to spread political propaganda. It was one of the main reasons why his election campaign was so successful (Cogburn, Espinoza-Vasquez, 2011, p202). Even more recent Bernie Sanders has received huge popularity boosts from the subreddit dedicated to him (r/SandersForPresident). Lisa Pollack (2016) states how Bernie Sanders has the largest number of supporters out of any other presidential candidate with his Reddit community raising him 2.3 million dollars. His subreddit has so many followers that posts written on the subreddit become some of the most upvoted posts on the entirety of Reddit (Barthel, 2016). Politicians also use Reddit AMA’s as a tool to discuss legislation and bills they are trying to implement or pass with the Reddit community.
