The Syrian Refugees Need Our Help There is a crisis going on the other side of the world. Syria is in the middle of a war with four factions fighting for control. This fighting leaves millions of people in unsafe conditions, fleeing for their lives. The world has been in a debate over who should help them and take them in. The United States is one of those nations divided over this decision. Fear has left many demanding that we not offer asylum. This fear is unfounded and based on misinformation. The facts show that we should, indeed, accept refugees into the United States.
The potential for terrorists to make their way into the United States with the refugees is one of the biggest issues cited. Most citizens feel that it is not worth the risk to our safety to help the Syrians.

Many say that they have similar cultures and are doing nothing to help. While their way of life may be quite close, letting in Syrian refugees increases the potential for political, ethnic, and sectarian tension. Most of these countries have seen their own battles and the balance is quite precarious in many of them. The Syrians are often on the opposite side of many of the issues and beliefs. Letting these refugees in could tip the balance and cause more wars. This does not mean they are not doing anything to help. Lebanon, Turkey, and Egypt have set up camps for the refugees to stay in while looking for asylum elsewhere. The United Arab Emirates maintain refugee camps close to the Syrian borders in other countries. They equip the camps with necessities. Saudi Arabia, which has bombed some of the Syrian areas, has helped as well. According to Nabil Othman, acting regional representative to the Gulf region at the UNHCR, “There are 500,000 Syrians in Saudi Arabia”(Bershidsky, Leonid). The Gulf States are helping as much as they can without escalating issues that could impact even more
