Close your eyes. Imagine a loved one in the hospital receiving the best care in the world. Yet, that loved does not make it. Think of the suffering and grief that is endured. Now, think of all the stress that comes with that because the hospital knocks on your door asking for payment for “treating and taking care” of your loved one. The health care system in our country is horrible compared to other countries. In other countries, a doctor’s visit costs next to nothing. Getting an MRI scan, an ultrasound, CAT scan, etc. costs next to nothing for those people living in Italy, Britain, or France. Trump’s plan on repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act was the BCRA. The plan allowed the insurance companies to offer plans to people that did not meet the requirements for the ACA. This means that they do not cover pre-existing conditions and include the ten essential benefits that the ACA has. The BCRA would also provide money to the insurance company to help offset the big price tag that “higher risk” individuals who have pre-existing conditions come with. Despite these “improvements” to the health care system, the plan never made it passed the Senate. As Kaplan and Sullivan put it, “the Senate rejected a measure that would have repealed major parts of the Affordable Care Act but would not have provided a replacement…” When this happened, all President Trump had to offer was tweets filled with rage and stupidity. Trump and his team had to go back to the drawing board and come up with a different plan on how to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
