A two year old baby giraffe, named Marius, was slaughtered at the Copenhagen Zoo during the year 2014. Even though Marius had done nothing wrong, the European Association invited young kids and parents to watch a zoo keepers shoot the giraffe in the head, cut him into pieces, and feed him to other zoo animals. This zoo thought it would be a good learning experience since kids would never be able to see this in a classroom. Marius was the perfect giraffe to kill because he looked too much like all the other giraffes, no one would miss him. Many other zoo’s wanted to pay money to adopt Marius, but the Copenhagen Zoo declined every offer. The zoo's who wanted Marius would pay money for him because baby animals attract bigger audiences. Even though animals are more protected at zoos, they are torture for the animals because they are prisons and animal keepers do not always care for their animals as they should. First of all, animals are more protected at zoo’s than most places in the world. They are not being hunted, they have lots of things to do, and they have plenty of food and treats every day. For some animals it is hard to find mates to breed within the wild, this is why animals go extinct, and this is why zoos have breeding programs. They killed all four to make room for a new male lion. The Copenhagen Zoo told their audience they were going to bring in a male lion and they were not going to build a whole new enclosure, it would be too expensive. The ten month old baby cubs would not be able to protect themselves against a fully grown lion, and since no one wanted to buy the animals from the zoo they director of the zoo said to kill them all. After they were killed, the new male was brought in and put in a cage with the two female lions who were ready to have babies.
