Did you know that in 2014, 2,466 completely legal murders took place. Those murders are known as the “death penalty.” The death penalty should not be allowed anywhere in the world. The death penalty is a cruel, inhumane practice and has no place in the justice systems of the world. I will be convincing you that the death penalty is hypocritical. Most of the people sentenced to death are sentenced because of murder. Why would we punish such an awful crime as murder, with murder? I will also be arguing that the death penalty is always going to be cruel, no matter how “painless” the process is and that prison for a murderer could possibly be a worse than the death penalty.
When you burgle someone, is your punishment to be burgled? When you commit arson, should you have your house burned down? No. Then why should you be murdered if you murder someone else? You should not. It does not make sense. Everyone should have a shot at turning their life around no matter how bad the crime. Prisoners on death row live alone in very small cells, which they rarely leave, are allowed less visits than normal prisoners, and usually only interact with guards and other death row inmates. Death row was originally created in this manner because it was only planned to be a holding center for the short time between sentencing and execution. As most know, that short time can now be decades. This wait on death row, this wait with people who are all destined for the same fate, is painful. Spending your days with others who have committed hideous crimes is awful. If you yourself, has committed a crime that the other inmates don’t like, watch out. Your life will be literally worse than the hell you would soon be a part
