“Start Em’ Young!” The ultimate question parents ask themselves in their child's early years of growing up whether or not to start them is recreational sports. So why is starting children at a young age in recreational sports such a cloudy topic many parents ask themselves? Kids might think playing their favorite rec ball team is fun when really there is a bigger aspect in what they are truly learning. Children who do begin to play at a young age get a head start in many life skills and development needed like instilling values, competitiveness, healthy habits, and obtaining goals affecting their future. Children playing a sport at an early age begin developing values and morals needed for what lies ahead of them. They expand on skills such as leadership and communication skills with their teammates. Sports instills that competitiveness at an early age as the child plays against the team he or she eagerly wants to beat. The greater the level the more competitive it gets and harder it is to achieve the goal he or she wants. Sports challenges kids to do better and strive to reach their goals thev have set for themselves. Creates drive in the child to do better not just on the field but off the field like homework or at home. It boost their self esteem knowing they worked hard for the goal they reached and setting a new goal to obtain. Engraving competitiveness is vital because when they get older they will know to set goals and not be complacent. Even if they fail, from experience they have already had a taste of it and have a better understanding of overcoming their fails.
