A quote I read stated, “Only 20 percent of eligible voters vote in congressional primaries” (Politico Magazine). It surprised me to see that the number of voters was only at 20%, I consider that very low due to the fact that our country is based on the idea that people have a say in what they would like the government to be like through voting. I say we need to show initiative to get more people in our country to vote for the issues at hand. In the system we have today voting is a key way to get higher up officials to listen to your voice. I believe a way that we can increase the number of others in the US is by first educating people of issues at hand that people are voting on. People today tend to ignore what is really happening in our system, those who are unaware of issues won’t care to contribute their opinions through voting. Educating more people, especially young adults because our voting age is 18, on the importance of voting will lead them to contribute their opinions and raise voter turnout. I came across this quote, “We need a constitutional amendment that says something like ‘…only eligible voters, and organizations whose only purpose is to represent eligible voters, shall contribute anything, directly or indirectly, for or against the election of a candidate or cause, or for or against any legislation.’” I love this quote, basically the middle class are the people that keeps the economy going, they are the ones purchasing items and paying the most taxes. So to have corporations and union leaders that don't experience the same way of living making decisions for the middle and lower class doesn't benefit the democratic system, it hurts it and only benefits a small percentage of
