The United States has a voter turnout rate of 53.6% according to a Washington Post. America voter turnout has been at this rate for decades. Why is this? Main people believe it is because the there are voting requirements, which are you must be a U.S. citizen, a legal resident, and you must be eighteen or older. However, it is not the only reason. Many Americans do not vote simply because they don’t care, they are uneducated, they don’t have to do it, and/or because of the way America’s voting system is done.
Many Americans are uneducated, unprepared, when it comes to voting. Americans don’t vote because they do not know anything about voting, they don’t know who the candidates are, they do not what the voting process is. They never heard of the Electoral College. Many people don’t care about the political world, these people think that their vote wouldn’t really count. During the time of elections the names of the most popular candidates are heard and whether or not they are republican or democrat- that is all that seems to matter. This year for the elections of 2016, most of the candidates have “Twitter”, here they talk about what they are fighting for, or they “roast” other candidates. Facebook has also been used during the past years. The internet, as well as social media is a way for people to know what is happening. It is the fastest way for information to reach a person. With social media, younger people are becoming more interested to the debates and the entire election because the see the same “tweets” on twitter on talking about it. I would use both social media and the internet to inform people about who the candidates are and how the elections is going along every day, this way people will be prepared to cast
