Water is extremely important for humans and other animals to survive and you couldn’t have any kind of society without water. When designing a space settlement, one very crucial thing that needs to be taken into account is your water. To keep the space colony sustainable, we will need to have ways of recycling and reusing water. We will need to know what things can negatively affect our water supply, how much water we will be using for different things, where we will be storing our water, and we need to design a water system that will filter water and not let water go to waste.
Recycling water isn’t a very big challenge, but it is still an important part when designing a space settlement. https://science.nasa.gov stated, that the ISS (International Space Station) already has ways to recycle water and not let it go to waste. We will be recycling the breath, sweat, and urine of all of the humans living on the settlement. Condensing breath, sweat, and urine will give us water that we can purify into clean drinking water. We will also be collecting the runoff from showers and sinks and reusing that water in our water system. As I stated before, recycling the water in our settlement shouldn’t be too much of a challenge because there are already ways of doing this on the ISS.
