Male supremacy in today’s society in something we seek to get rid of so that we may be equal. In Taming of the Shrew, Petruchio tries to dominate and manipulate Kate into become the perfect wife. Kate is able to use this to her advantage to make them equal so that they can prosper. She is able overcome the idea that there is male supremacy in marriage. Shakespeare shows us how male supremacy in marriage is a false idea. Shakespeare shows how a women is the only person who can authenticate a man's power. Throughout the story, Petruchio tries to assert his dominance over Kate through taming her. He wants to be seen as having all the power of Kate in their marriage. Kate knows that the only way Petruchio can be man is if Kate submits to him. She has the power to be keep him from his goal of taming her. Kate is shown to authenticate his manhood by her speech at the reception of Bianca. Many men act like arrogant jerks around each other. They all seem to think that they are better than everyone else. Petruchio shouts and acts like a complete fool just to try and embarrass Kate on the wedding day.
