The Phantom Photo
Now that it’s all over, I wish I hadn’t taken that photograph. It was an unseasonably cold Friday in early October, and I was on a mission. Earlier in the week, my art teacher, Ms.Harris, had announced our latest assignment. We had to take one photo, it had to be of a person, and it had to be a stranger. And we had to actually t alk t o the person. I was mildly terrified, but also excited. What would happen? Who would I meet?
As usual, I had procrastinated on the assignment and only had three days to do it. I headed out right after school in search of the perfect photo. I had no idea where to start. You can’t just go up to someone and say “hey can I take your photo?” I had been trudging along for about an hour now and had yet to take one photo. Suddenly I saw a figure up ahead. I nervously raised my hand. “I... I” she stammered, I was seriously freaked out now. W hat did I do? “ Can I see you in the hall?” Once again I thought my heart was gonna beat out of my chest. I stumbled into the hall, completely unaware of what was about to happen. “Who is the person in this photograph?” She asked, looking quite flustered.
“II don’t know I didn’t get her name” then after a short pause “Why?”
“I know that girl. Do you think you could find her again?” I was speechless. Could I find her again? I didn’t even know her name, but what else could I say? “Uh yeah, sure” I lied.
My curiosity had gotten the best of me, and I needed to get to the bottom of this. I decided to return to where I had taken the photo and wait to see if she came back; It was as good a plan as any. The end of the day could not come fast enough. At 2:30 I practically ran out the door and down the street. I went back to the street where I had first met the girl and waited. It
had been about an hour and I was starting to lose hope when she rounded the corner. I realized that I hadn’t planned out what I was going to say if I saw
