The Affair It was a bright and warm summer day in London and Oscar Neebe, a union worker at McCormick Reaper Works International, was leaving work early. He had just been laid off of work and had to tell his wife that they would have to leave their one bedroom house. He wondered to himself, “ How am I going to tell her? We already have barely enough to eat as it is”. It is July 28, 1937 and Oscar Neebe’s life was only just beginning to change. At London’s historic Blackfriars station, Private James McGomery was just getting off of a trip to Chelsea to met a Mr. Hazard about Chelsea’s future in football. He was walking along the station when a newsboy shouted “Extra! Extra! Read all about it. Cyrus McCormick of McCormick Reaper Works dies from molten metal!” James McGomery bought the paper for a half penny with George VI’s head on it and proceeded to read the article on a nearby bench. …show more content…

The steel at the time of his death would have been molten. No man in his right mind would have just stood there as molten metal came at them. The head of the investigation, Detective Anton from Scotland Yard states that there are no witnesses as this took place on a Sunday. The only clue that they have to the murder is that Mr. McCormick’s chest was facing the foundry’s mold suggesting that Mr. McCormick was pushed. This in turn suggests that more than one person was involved as one person would have to pour the molten iron while one person pushed Mr. McCormick. The police state that there are no fingerprints or other pieces of evidence in the foundry and that they will not stop till this case is
