I was once perplexed about my career goal, fortunately, I found it clear during my sophomore year and I become more determined about it now. I was wondering about what a physical therapist can do when I heard about this profession for the first time. The initiation of my thoughts about going into the field of physical therapy was after I volunteered and shadowed at a rehabilitation hospital. Even though it was a short experience, it’s very precious. I feel more certain about my decision while I’m volunteering at a physical therapy clinic this summer. These two experiences helped me to shape my understanding of professionalism in the context of being a student in a doctor of physical therapist degree program.

I started volunteering at a local physical therapy clinic this summer. Even though they are all about physical therapy, this outpatient setting works differently from the inpatient. I barely had any chances to ask questions or get involved when the patient was getting treated at the hospital because the schedule for physical therapist there was firm. On the other hand, I was able to discuss with physical therapist about patient’s conditions with his/her permission. I’ve learned rehab exercises and saw rehab equipments that are different from my previous experience. Also, the outpatients ' body strength and exercise tolerance seem to be stronger than those inpatients '. I applied the communication skills that I learned in the hospital and got really good feedbacks. I also observed and followed around a student physical therapist there. She’s always polite, respectful to every patient, and very professional in treating patients as well. She demonstrated her professionalism although she’s not a licensed physical
