When a college student says that they are a kinesiology major the first thought that may come to mind when thinking of what that person wants to be is a coach or an athletic trainer. Moreover, there are several different careers whom might pursue from a kinesiology degree. Kinesiology is defined as the study of the mechanics of body movements, so the careers capable of being pursued range from coaches or athletic trainers to physical therapists. One discipline in kinesiology that be will be discussed is the job of a prosthetic practitioner. Which will be the purpose of this writing, to inform you about this kinesiology career and the concepts of it.
APTA vision statement for physical therapy “transforming society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience” is an important component that can contribute to the quality of life for all people. I do believe that making the best use of movement can improve one's human experience. The human body is made up of joints and tendons that had evolved to help humans achieve movement. The human body is designed with the ability of movement, no matter how small. Optimizing this ability should help transform society.
Robot-assisted therapy is being used more frequently in various aspects of therapy. Robot-assisted therapy is the use of robotic devices that have been tailored in assisting various specific sensorimotor functions. Robot-assisted therapy uses the various robotic equipment only for short amount of times during therapy sessions. The purpose of the robotics is not to replace what used to happen by muscle movement as assistive devices, but instead to help the person regain their independent movement without the use of the robotics (Mehrholz, Hädrich, Platz, Kugler & Pohl, 2012). Robot-assisted therapy is used mostly with patients who have had a stroke that left them with partial, reduced or no arm function.
Physical Therapists are individuals that help their patients diminish pain and regain mobility, yet it means so much more. For me, becoming a Physical Therapist means I get to take part in enhancing a person’s life and seeing growth and change in their future. I get to use every single day what I have observed numerous times. I will experience so much from their gains; I will watch them push their self, break barriers, and achieve goals. While observing as an undergraduate, I have been able to help touch lives by helping and educating those who need it and those who want the change for a better, healthy lifestyle.

In many cases physical therapy can work better than expensive surgery and often reduce the need for long-term use of prescription medications. Physical therapists can teach patients how to prevent or manage their condition so that they will achieve long-term health benefits. I feel that the goals of being a physical therapist is to help injured people regain what they once had and not become disabled.
