Physician-assisted suicide is an option only given to patients that have a terminal illness as well as a prognosis of less than or six months to live. It work as another opportunity for the patient, a way to release their pain and stress. The patient must be mentally competent and must submit both oral and written requests to his or her attending physician at least 15 days apart. Also, the patient must also be physically able to self-administer the drug.

It might sounds similar to euthanasia, however, it is totally different. Just like what he said, “Dying is not a crime.”, helping patients to be released from the drudgery and suffer should not be a crime.

On another hand, without physicians assistance, people may commit suicide in a messy, horrifying, and traumatic way. If you were a family member, which would be more traumatic --saying goodbye to a loved one at hospital or coming home to see his or her head and brains splattered against the wall from a bullet? It is also a cruel point that if people truly want to die, nothing is going to stop them. Secondly, vital organs can be saved, allowing doctors to save the lives of others, isn’t that a win-win situation without harming family and yourself?

Someone might disagree and say, voluntary euthanasia will be (physicians assisted suicide) the start of the slope that leads to involuntary euthanasia and the killing of people who are thought undesirable. However, physician assisted suicide isn’t a "right or wrong" thing.
