Many people don’t quite understand the “Pit Bull” but soon you will understand. Pit bull is not a breed. It is a generic term often used to describe all dogs with similar traits and characteristics often known to the public as “Pit Bulls”. This essay is for any owners of “pit bull” type dogs such as American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, and pit mixes. Pit Bulls are amazing animals that deserve love and affection just like any other dog. However, remember that Pit Bulls aren’t just any other dog. The breed’s original purpose American Pit Bull Terriers for hundreds of years have been bred to fight other dogs. Coming from England as Bull Baiting they turned into fighting dogs. This is the sad and cruel work these innocent dogs were made for. (3)“Pit Bulls have been banned in England and Wales since 1991” Just like the Labrador is bred to retrieve, the American Pit Bull Terrier was bred to fight other dogs. Although not all Pit Bulls are the same, it’s always best to know how to keep a fight from happening and stopping a fight when one has been started, it could be a matter of life or death for your dog and the other dog. A Pit Bull may not even be the one starting the fight but chances are he will fight like a pro if he has to. Every negative incident involving our Pit Bulls adds to their bad reputation and jeopardizes our rights to own these amazing animals. Its up to us to keep our Pits out of
