Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization that provides medical care to men, women, and children. Despite contrary belief, Planned Parenthood is not only an abortion-based service. This organization treats “42 % STD/STI Testing and Treatment, 34% Contraceptives, 3% Abortion Services, 9% Cancer Screenings and Prevention, 11% Other Women 's Health Services, and 1% Other Services” (Planned Parenthood). In fact, Planned Parenthood is a main source of medical protection for low-income families. Furthermore, the main concern conservatives have with this firm is abortion services, meanwhile the government does not pay for abortion procedures. “Planned Parenthood health centers comprise 10 percent of all publicly funded family planning centers, but they serve 36 percent of all clients who obtain care from the country’s family planning health center network” (Guttmacher Institute). The non-profit organization gets a specific amount of money to fund patients, however, Planned Parenthood serves 26% more patients, which they do not get funding for. The firm is relying on a small amount of funding from the government, yet they serve more than they are able too. However, it is often forgotten that the organization serves a variety of medical conditions. By defunding Planned Parenthood the American society will suffer by denying those who are below the federal property lines to treat their problems, that are not relating to abortion. Planned Parenthood’s patients are not only women, and as stated before, abortion services only make up 3% of Planned Parenthood’s treatments. Also, by denying proper funding to Planned Parenthood, those who may have contracted an STI/STD are unable to get treatment due to the inability to pay for advanced technology that is required.
