During the Civil rights movement, there was a lot of segregation towards black and whites. There were two cases that involved segregation called Plessy vs Ferguson and also Brown vs Board of Education. The Plessy vs Ferguson was the start of segregation and The Brown vs Board of education was towards the end of segregation. This is known as the Jim Crow Laws. These two cases started massive changes in the US Civil Rights Laws.

The segregation existed before the Plessy vs Ferguson incident but was not equal towards colored and white people. 2. Plessy vs Ferguson was a United States Supreme Court case in America. However, there was an elementary school for white children closer to her. At that time, many schools in the United States were segregated. Black children and white children were not allowed to go to the same schools. The father of Linda tried to get her into the white school because it was close to her home. He thought it was stupid and unfair that she had to catch a 40-minute bus to go to a colored school which the environment and education was not as good as the white school who was more privileged.The principal of the school refused to allow his daughter to be educated there. The two schools were supposed to be "separate but equal." However, they were not.
In 1951, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) helped the parents file a lawsuit. In 1896, the Supreme Court had ruled in Plessy vs Ferguson that segregation was legal, as long as separate places for blacks and whites were "separate but equal."
