The Great Gatsby is a book about a man named Nick and he lives next to his neighbor Gatsby. This novel in based in the 1990 centie and in the city of New York city on long Island, in two 2 areas known as, “West Egg”, and “East Egg”. Nick goes on to talk about Gatsby and gets to know him and things happen in the book where Gatsby in a bad situation. The book goes on to tell about Gatsby and Daisy a woman he is in love with.
Once recited by the great Nick Carraway, “There are only the pursued, the pursuing, the busy, and the tired” (79). Chapter 5 of the book The Great Gatsby, reflects upon the experience that Jay Gatsby, Daisy Buchanan have together with the unfortuante Nick Carraway being trapped in the same room together. Carraway can be thought of as almost being a buffer in some instances. Everything becomes awkward at some point and that is what that buffer is for. Gatsby is the person that wants to be with Daisy again.

He seems like he is not very close to his father and that he does not talk to him very much. He says he is not judgmental, since his dad advised him not to be. Even though he listened to his father, he discovers through his life that being judgmental, at least a bit, would be beneficial in certain situations if he was. Everyone wants to confide in Nick, and tell them their problems.
In the passage on page sixty-one in chapter five of The Great Gatsby, Nick Carraway is walking in New York City beginning to get used to the atmosphere of the city. Nick shows almost conflicting emotions in the passage, being excited by the busyness but almost relaxed by it as well. This provides a realistic approach to societies’ feelings toward their surroundings. Nick Carraway is a monomyth hero according to the ideologies of Joseph Campbell. Campbell describes a hero as someone who must, “put aside his pride, his virtue, beauty and life and bow or submit to the absolutely intolerable.” In the novel, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Nick Carraway must depart from a life he knows, and journey into the unknown, where he succumbs to a call of adventure. The challenges and ordeals he faces construct his character and lead him to challenge his integrity and morals. Over the course of his quest, he is transformed and later returns back to the land he knows.
Tom was a college football star, who now lives in the shadow of his past. Nick is then introduced to Jordan Baker and Daisy. He describes them both as angelic in the way they seem to float in the hall. Nick then learns that Daisy has a three year old daughter, who remains unnamed. Tom also has a significant relationship with another woman, Myrtle. This illicit relationship is quickly shown to be shallow as after Myrtle brought up Daisy, “making a short deft movement, Tom Buchanan broke her nose with his open hand.” He also only thinks of himself after Myrtle is fatally killed, trying to figure out the best way to protect himself, and particularly distraught about her death. Nick and Jordan also harbor minor romantic feelings. Nick clearly states “I wasn’t actually in love, but I felt a sort of tender curiosity.
The second half of The Great Gatsby begins with a description of Gatsby’s background and history. He went to the college of St. Olaf’s but dropped out shortly after he admitted. After Gatsby left school he obtained a job working on Lake Superior collecting clams and salmon. He saved a man named Dan Cody from a storm and Cody was so thankful that he took Gatsby in and they traveled together. This is when Gatsby realized his desire for wealth and luxury and after this point he dedicated himself to becoming a successful man.
