Super Mario Bros is one of those classic games that most are familiar with. It has revolutionized the video game industry like no game before it had done. It would be hard for a person to not recognize that red-clad plumber, his sidekicks, and at least a handful of all those different enemies. The game just had its thirty-first anniversary yesterday, celebrating years of still-recognizable staying power in the minds of most.
Coincidentally, I had the pleasure of reading a poem in class surrounding the game. Payton's poem was one that I found to be a good balance of informative, and interesting to read. It had a central theme of life, and the author utilized metaphor, simile, and imagery very well to get her point across. Through the use of a game series that most are familiar with, Super Mario Bros, she was able to convey her persistent and positive outlook about life.

There were also references to the many stages, showing how long the trials can be. One thing I especially like is that Payton did not just talk about the outer challenges people face, but the inner ones as well. She acknowledged that there are more than just the enemies that one faces along the way. There are also the mental battles that one will face. Things like wanting to give up, because of how everything continues without an end, and just how tough it is to want to keep facing enemies. That feeling of wanting to give up has happened to everyone before. Payton incorporated these feelings well into her metaphor, pointing out that it is more fun to play the game than to do nothing at
