Police Brutality is excessive and unnecessary action to civilians. If the school board bans fiction novels from the curriculum, students will fail to connect to stories. In the novel Dear Martin by Nic Stone, a boy named Justyce who is wearing a black hoodie and has his earphones in and goes out to save his ex-girlfriend who is drunk and attempting to drive. Fiction novels should not be banned because it can relate to real world topics, spreads awareness and educated along with informing students.

Every teenager goes through drama especially in high school which is what Justyce is going through. After Justyce gets released everyone at school is talking about it and there is a whole class argument about how black people are discriminated. Justyce being unnecessarily beaten started drama. Throughout the entire book, Justyce is consistently going through drama from the kids at school to his ex and a girl he likes to his mama at home and it’s eating him up inside. In my personal opinion police brutality and drama are somewhat related. Because when police brutality occurs it is talked about and it is spoken of and problems originate. Going back to the novel after Justyce is free he gets into drama everywhere he goes. So therefore police brutality can cause drama. Drama can really affect someone’s life, it can change who they are and how they live. Drama is an emotional series of events. In the story, the two characters Manny and Justyce get into an argument in the car. There is loud music playing in the car while they are venting their frustrations and they end up crossing paths with an off-duty cop. Shots are fired and someone else ends up dead. The book shows how drama can affect someone’s life like Justyce. Justyce has now twice gotten into a bad encounter with the cop over some drama and it is hurting his life for the worst.
