Imagine if you will, coming home from a long day at work, you turn on the television and start watching the news. Upon your observance, you notice the headlines of the night: equality for African Americans, Women’s rights, and imprudent activists who devote hours of time for protests towards political and social causes. Environmentalists are warning viewers of the long-term effect of pollution on the earth, and of course, the ever-popular culture war between the alt-left liberals and alt-right conservatives. The information brings about confusion and fear as you cannot seem to fathom the horrors of the world, yet simultaneously you are embracing the opportunity for change and equality.
The rise of liberalism marked the beginning of social change in the United States. It allowed people of different religions, gender, color or creed to live peacefully and efficiently in the same culture. Political correctness became the mark of infamy of perceptions when homophobia, racism, and sexism became the topic of oppression. Feminism campaigned and grew to protect the rights of women for fair wages, receiving education, and the promotion to protect women from rape or sexual …show more content…

Originally intended to act as a measure to avoid offending members of society, political correctness unintentionally played a major role in suppressing criticism toward one political party or another. Political correctness has created an “off-limits” for topics of discussion. Society has now transformed political correctness into a judgmental phrase. How many times has an individual offended or became offended because of a comment or article on social media? How often is the “offensive” content removed because something as minute as a disagreement arises? Even the media misconstrues headlining news because topics of discussion can demean or offend others with a bias
