Based on the political debate, I’ve learned many things about the Democratic-Republicans and the Federalists. For example, the Democratic-Republicans believed that having an economy that was based upon agriculture and farming was the best way to succeed. They thought that most citizens were good, and that there should be a more state-centered government so that the people can generally rule themselves. Democratic-Republicans thought that if the constitution didn’t specify something, you can’t read between the lines and make up what you want to do. They also believed that they should help France in the war against England because in the American Revolution, France had helped them.
The election of 1800, involved two parties. The Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans. John Adams and Charles C. Pinckney represented the Federalists and Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr represented the Democratic-Republicans. In the election of 1800, the candidates’ supporters wrote letters and articles to make their arguments against the opposing party. They didn’t travel around and give speeches like today.
During the establishment of the United States, the problems the founding fathers faced helped to form a constitution that is still followed to this day. Conditions of the country in the late 1700s and today are similar- debt, foreign threats, and unhappy people. But if the government today were to face a problem big enough to wreck the country, the United States would not be able to survive. It would not be possible to re-establish the government due to a divide among the people, the lack of dominant leaders, and the condition that the government is in.
The differences between the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans is that they both have different leaders. For Example, the Federalists leader was Alexander Hamilton and they were favored for multiple reasons such as, strong federal government, loosing interpretation of the constitution, they supported the representative government, and the federalists were ruled by the wealthy class. The Democratic-Republicans leader was Thomas Jefferson and they were ruled by the people. They were also favored by multiple reasons for example, they had a strong state government, strict interpretation of the constitution, just to name a few. As you can see they both are absolutely different from each other especially in the war against the French.
A political party is two different organizations made up of people with different ideas for how the country should be run. They argue over “who is right”. People join political parties who have similar beliefs ( Doc 1). Jefferson and Hamilton created the first two political parties. Jefferson, the Democratic Republicans, and Hamilton, the Federalists, had very different ideas for the new nation.
Party system refers to the way parties are organized, the balance of powers between and within the parties, and the issues or ideas which the parties are organized around. The Federalist and Jeffersonian Republicans were the first party system to immerge in the seventeen nineties. The federalist focused on the concerns of New England merchants. The wanted to rebuild a relationship with Britain, assumption of debt from the revolutionary war, and programs with encouraged manufacturing. The Jeffersonian republics were run with southern agriculture in mind.
Upon many different views on the government, it was hard to choose which party had the best view on who should run the government: The Federalists or the Democratic Republicans. The Federalists believed that a strong government was the right path. The Democratic Republicans concluded that a small government with limited power was the way to go. Though the parties had different ideas on how the government should be, They both wanted to follow the constitution but in different ways. The Federalists imagined that a strong national government was the right decision.
These two totally different political parties were able to agree on one very important topic, their goal and a free republic for our nation. However, if the topic “government” gets brought up, they have two totally different ideas. The Federalists thought we should have a strong Federal Government with a national bank. On the contrary, Democratic Republicans wanted a weak federal government with state banks. Even though we used to be ruled by the British, Federalists were Pro - British, whereas Democratic - Republicans were Pro - French.
the comparison is often made between modern Republicans and 1950s democrats; news anchors, political figures, and many Americans often compare the views of 1950s democrats to the views of modern Republicans. Political views change drastically year by year and the views of political parties have been known to flip. The conclusion can be made that 1950s Democrats and modern Republicans do share some similarities in political views, but usually differ on the way a situation should be handled or funded. Democrats have always been supporters of government supported social programs since the early 1900s, even more so as the years go on As the twentieth century progressed, Democrats increasingly supported social programs that sought to aid struggling
The Federalists were led by Alexander Hamilton while the Democratic Republicans were headed by someone who constantly butted heads with Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson. Both parties also differed by class and region, the Federalists were based out of the north and consisted mainly of merchants and the wealthy. On the other hand, Democratic Republicans were from the South and had many farmers. As a result of their region and class differences the political parties had very simple contrasts. While the Federalists desired a strong central government, loose construction, and an economy based on manufacturing and trade, the Democratic Republicans wanted to maintain Revolutionary ideas, strict construction, and an economy based on farming.
The Democrats and the Republicans have several differences and similarities. For example, some of the similarities have been able to find agreements on numerous political and social issues. Beyond the controversial issues of abortion, same-sex marriages, immigration,
Republicans place focus on decreasing government spending, as well as on lowering taxes. The support of “American-made” products and manufacturing based in the United States belongs to the Republican party. Republicans emphasize the deregulation of the government on the American economy, supporting the pursuit of prosperity without government interference. The Republican Party wants to lower the amount of money put into welfare, as well as the costs of trade, business, and investment. While the Republican Party supports deregulation, the Democratic Party places importance on government regulation in the economy.

Both the Democrats and the Republicans like to think of themselves as the true heirs of Thomas Jefferson. The modern Democrats are historically descended from the Democratic-Republican Party that Jefferson himself organized to thwart the ambitions of Alexander Hamilton (although, ironically, they were known as "Republicans" in Jefferson 's time). Democrats around the country annually celebrate Jefferson-Jackson Dinners, avowedly declaring a connection between Jefferson and the modern Democratic Party. But Republicans claim that their platform of small government and low taxes is more in line with true Jeffersonian philosophy than that of the big-government Democrats.
