The political structures of Germany, the United States, and the United Kingdom, are comparable in regards to their form and components. The simple structure of their governments are to be explained with particular attention to the branches; Executive, Legislative, and Judicial, and a short treatment of the viability of federalism within these countries will be given.
In the Democratic United Kingdom's system, there is a Constitutional Monarchy. The Crown being the royal prerogative and Head of State has a Council, cabinet, and Prime Minister as the Head of the Government. The Judiciary branch is independent of the other branches, with itt highest court, The Supreme Court of the United Kingdom. Parliament is highest authority of government, it makes and changes the laws. It is made up of three parts, the Monarch, the House of Lords, and the House of Commons. The Bundesrat, or legislative body, from the sixteen assemblies (each state having 3-6 votes depending on population) and lastly, there is the Constitutional Court. Together the Bundesrat and the Bundestag propose legislation, and the constitutional court reviews its validity under German basic law. The Executive branch of the German government is made up of the chancellor, the Cabinet, and the President. The chancellor is elected by the Bundestag and is head of the government. The chancellor appoints the Cabinet. The president is the head of state, and is elected by the federal assembly which consists of the Bundestag and special envoys from the 16 states. The Chancellor has great influence, specifically gained by the power to set the agenda. Though the president's role seems to be ceremonial, he can decide not to sign a bill into law.
