A Better Life for Ponyboy In the Novel, The Outsiders Ponyboys brothers may care for him but he’s not living a good lifestyle and is surrounded by bad influences therefore he would be better off in the system.This is proof that Ponyboy should be put into the system and taken out of the care of Darry. He would be better off in the system because, Darry has been shown to be not a responsible guardian. Darry lets Ponyboy smoke, fight, and lets him have chocolate cake every day for breakfast. Some people might say that Ponyboy would be better off with Darry because Darry and Sodapop love care for him. Being surrounded by bad influences like them could affect Ponyboy’s life and could possibly show Ponyboy that it’s okay to do those things. “All three of us like chocolate cake for breakfast. mom and dad never allowed it in the morning with ham and eggs but Darry let me and Soda talk him into it.” Pg.105 That quote supports perspective because it’s also evidence that Ponyboy is not living a healthy life because he’s eating chocolate everyday for breakfast. Eating chocolate cake for breakfast everyday is very unhealthy and can cause diabetes which can lead to death therefore he should be put in a boys home that way he can eat healthier. Everyone in our neighborhood, even the girls smoked.” Pg.97 That quote supports my perspective because it's evidence that Ponyboy is smoking at a young age and isn't aware how bad it is for him, or even bad period. Smoking, especially at a young age can lead to lung cancer, and or severe health issues. “ Two-bit snatched up an empty bottle bashed off the end, and gave it to me, then reached in his back pocket and flipped out his switchblade.” That quote supports my perspective because it’s also evidence
