Being a hero can be hard. A hero is someone who is brave and strong; someone who would do anything to save others, selflessly, just to save a life. Ponyboy is a hero. Although Johnny kills Bob, he is still a hero. Darry hits and yells at Ponyboy, but is still a hero. Anyone can be a hero, as long as they act like one.

Ponyboy is a hero. Ponyboy is kind, brave and adventurous. One time he acted as a hero was when he saved the children from the burning church with Johnny and said, “I’ll get them, don’t worry!” (page 91). He was brave in this moment because he went into the church without any hesitation. Another time when he acted kind was when he picked up the glass he broke from a glass bottle he used to scare away the Socs. Two-Bit said to him, “What in the world are you doing?”(page 172), and Ponyboy answered, “Picking up the glass”(page 172). Ponyboy picks up the glass so nobody gets a flat tire, which shows that he was brave to use it as a weapon, but also kind to pick up the glass so other people don’t get a flat tire. …show more content…

Johnny was shy and frightened, but he could also be courageous at some points too. When he killed a Soc to save Ponyboy he was brave, but once he noticed what he has done, he was back to being frightened again: “I killed him, I killed that boy.”(page 56). Even though Johnny killed Bob, he did it to save Ponyboy’s life. Another time Johnny was courageous was when he saved the children from the burning church. He said to the children in a very brave voice, “Shut up! We’re goin’ to get you out!” (page 92) and Ponyboy thought, “Johnny [isn’t] behaving like his old self” (page 92).
