Pope Francis has been deemed the modern day pope, utilizing twitter to communicate with the world. He is also known for challenging what societies have deemed as social norms. One of the social norms that Pope Francis has challenged is the Islamic State, which has been for the most part quietly taken over the Middle Eastern countries by force. The three characteristics that Pope Francis possess are being faithful, nonviolent and selfless.
The Islamic State is known by multiple names, ISIS, IS, and ISIL but all of these names refer to the same group. It is thought that ISIS started during the Iraq war in 2003 (“Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL)”, 2015). Not only does he condemn the acts he also does not support acts of violence to stop ISIS, such as the bombs that the United States has dropped to try to slow the progression of ISIS. There are people who believe that the Pope saying that he supports the use of force is his approval of violence and war, whereas the use of force is the same thing as saying there should be stricter use of police force to control the ISIS groups. The Pope is known for making big changes with his words but his actions speak louder than his words, he is known for his caring and loving demeanor which is the way he would like to see the world. There is a universal understanding of what I call "the Pope Way" but Pope Francis has paved a new way for the Pope to be interpreted by the world. He has his own Twitter account where he spreads wisdom, send condolences, and also questions humanities toughest problems. We all know about his Jeep that allows for access to those in crowds, when many would see this is as unsafe and vulnerable he see it as giving himself to those who need his help and guidance, being selfless.
