No one has a bigger passion for baseballs than Zack Hample. He is what we call a ballhawk - someone that goes to baseball games with the intent to get as many baseballs as possible. A person’s relationship with history is very much like their relationship with brussel sprouts: you either love ‘em or you hate ‘em, with most people identifying with the latter. As we are told countless times, history is important because if we forget it, we are doomed to repeat it. It is a logical claim, for how can someone learn and move forward if they do not reflect and fix their mistakes? History, however, has a tendency to be boring, a never-ending waterfall of dates and names that can only be learned through mind-numbing memorization. Is this truly the only way, however?

When considering whether or not an author is reliable, an individual must figure out whom the author is, and analyze the text to determine what the author is saying. Also, the researcher must consider the text’s general background information, such as the purpose. A point that O-Prof brought up was the reliability of Wikipedia. O-Prof only recommended using Wikipedia as a starting point to gain general background information on the topic. However, an effective way of using Wikipedia is to check out some of the scholarly sources cited at the bottom of the page.
Throughout human history, various beverages have played a significant role in shaping societies and cultures. " A History of the World in 6 Glasses" by Tom Standage explores the impact of beverages such as beer and wine on different civilizations. This essay aims to argue that beer had a more profound impact on the history of humanity compared to wine. By examining the historical evidence presented in the book we can look into the societal, economic, and cultural transformations brought about by beer. Beer had a considerable impact on the development of human societies.
In “Best in Class”, Margaret Talbot reveals the stressful lives of students in high school. The majority can relate to her essay since most have endured this unforgiving time in life. The main point Talbot debates is the competition for valedictorian. The author shows that being valedictorian is a respectable honor; however, in recent years it has been corrupted and should be modified by implementing passionate pathos and understanding persona. Talbot is able to use great pathos to advance her message regarding valedictorian.
Usually the information conversed in history classes reflect the building blocks of what is occurring in our society and world of today. As the world changes around us, our picture frame in history changes as well. “It’s written and rewritten in each generation. The most important thing a historian can do is provide the world with a reliable, sound knowledge of history and the truth in what has happened in our society. Without a solid understanding of where we came from, we cannot understand why things are the way they are, how we got here, and where we’re going. The farther back time goes, the harder it is to know for sure what the absolute facts are, however, there is plenty of evidence to let us know what happened during some of the most important time periods of our nation’s history. To be presented as valedictorian, to have the opportunity to speak at graduation, to walk across the stage knowing you’ve worked extremely hard over the past 4 years - that is an honor. The title valedictorian began as an innocent award to reward the top student in each class; however, students have turned it into an enormous competition. These competitions have resulted in lawsuits, sour attitudes, and negativity towards one another. We saw what tragedies took place and how they managed to get through their problems, which can better equip ourselves to predict and prepare for the future. Literature helps us to sympathize with the characters, and maybe even someone we know who is in a similar predicament.
