So for starters we will be talking about popular EDM subgenres. Now you may be thinking “Hey EDM isn 't popular!”. But oh how wrong you are. So what is the most popular of all the EDM subgenres in mainstream music today? This is Trap music. Trap is what almost everyone hears on mainstream radio and also independent record labels. Trap can be put into many different types but its roots go back to the 1990s where hip hop music started using drum kicks called 808s. That’s what mayed trap unique. I will play two examples of trap. One that is on mainstream and one that is on a independent record label. The next genre that is popular is Electro house. Electro house is what almost all club house music is based around. Trust me this one will be shorter. The first underrated sub genre is trance. While trance saw a lot of popularity in the 90s, it just is not as popular now. Trance is uplifting and its fills are noticeable to the genre. Here is an example of trance made now. The next type of underrated EDM is called future bass. While again this genre is quite popular, I feel the original artists are the most underrated of all. Future bass is a sub genre of trap music as it does use 808s but it also has one of those sounds that are very unique to the genre itself. Here is an example of underrated future bass. The next type of EDM that is underrated is called jackin’ house. Jackin’ house is a genre of house that came around the time that house came about in the 90s. It is hard hitting and simple. It can vary in styles depending on the artist. Here is an example of jackin’ house. The fourth type of underrated EDM is drumstep. Drumstep is a subgenre of drum & bass but has drum beats of dubstep.
