Did you know that in the 1900’s the population was under 2 billion? Since then the population has gone up over 5 billion. This speech addresses the topic of population. Population increase is an issue to society. It is important to study and be aware of. We all hear about the concerns of population growth. Does it really matter to us? I’m going to tell you during this speech why we should care. According to the UNDESA (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs), the current population of the world is 7.4 billion. It is expected to reach 8.5 billion by 2030, 9.7 billion by 2050, and 11.2 billion by 2100. Lots of reasons contribute to the effect of rising populations. One of the main reasons is the number of revolutions and the …show more content…

One of the largest problems with a large population is water. The average human needs two liters of water every day, that means that by 2050, with a population of 9.7 billion we will need to provide the planet with at least 19.4 billion liters of water every day. Although there are 326 sextillion gallons of water on earth, only 8.15 sextillion gallons of that are potable. Within that 5.705 sextillion gallons are frozen in glaciers. That leaves us with only 2.445 sextillion gallons of water available. Combined with the projected 55% increase in water demand by 2050, and a 400% water manufacturing demand. The freshwater supply will be under immense pressure. Although freshwater can be created through a process called desalination, it costs about 100 million per 300,000 people. If there was no fresh water that would cost about 2,433,300,000,000 dollars every day just for water. Water is such a concern because there is a finite amount of it on Earth. Another problem is natural resources. According to arstech.com, Air pollution will overtake contaminated water and lack of sanitation as the prime cause of premature mortality across the globe, potentially rising to 3.6 million deaths per year mostly in China and India. Death rates caused by ground-level ozone among OECD countries are projected to be among the world 's highest, thanks in part to the aging, urbanized populations. Increased population also means an increase in demand …show more content…

There are many ways to decrease the population, some of them are to let nature deal with it with more famines and diseases. Another would be to limit the number of kids a person is allowed to have. According to worldpopulationbalance.org by averaging 1.5 children per family, the world population would decline to about 5 billion by 2100. But a family of 1 child would decrease the population by 1 billion by 2060, and 3 billion by 2100. Some countries, like China, already do this. They have a one-child policy, but that limits personal freedoms. Others countries like Russia already have low birth rates, theirs is at 1.75. Or India which is paying couples ₹6727 rupees, an equivalent of $106 to wait two years before having kids. But on the other side In 2012 Iran began to pay for each baby born, and they paid an annual payment until the child turns 18. Other more radical ideas include extraterrestrial settlement, but that we would have to find a way to create fresh air and water, and food. With the fastest rocket flying at top speeds, it would take three days, but the rocket didn’t even slow down or approach lunar orbit. If it were Mars it would take 260 days to get there with
